The end of the physical media age. Good or Bad?

Updated: Apr 30

Through the years physical media has taken many forms and evolved significantly for many industries. For music it has been vinyl records, 8 tracks, cassette tapes and compact discs. For movies it has been reel to reel, video tape, laser disc, DVD and now Blu Ray. For computer software it has seen cartridges, cassette tape, 5.25 and 3.5 inch floppies, compact disc and Blu Ray. With the come of the 21st century we have seen a slow but increasing steady migration away from these tangible media formats to online hosting and streaming technologies. The industry receives payment for their product and offers us the privilege to see the content but with a catch. We never truly own the content and we are only able to see our purchase with permission of our good conscious provider. At present we still have the option to buy physical media but I feel it won't be long before this option is no longer available. How do you feel regarding this changing trend?
