Vista Does Suck

I came across this post “It’s Official: Vista Sucks” and I have to agree.  I bought a laptop last December.  Leary that it came with Vista installed I figured if it’s too slow I could always wipe the hard drive and install XP.  Even still, since it was to be my first hands on experience with Vista, I was anxious to see what it was like.  It does look nice, but man is it slow and a bit of a pain to figure out where things are located being so accustomed to XP Anyway, I have been slow to make the move back to XP, but recently I began to research the possibility.  I found people saying that it is a difficult process because laptops these days are built especially for Vista.  So I have put that quest on the back burner.  After reading the linked post, it appears that there are things I can do to better performance, so I will give them a try.  Has anyone done a “downgrade” on their Vista laptop?  If so, do you have any tips for fellow DIYers?

  1. Don’t try to downgrade from Vista to XP. With the effort you put in to uninstall and reinstall everything, you could be an expert in Vista already. What exactly is the performance issue you are experiencing? Do you have the service pack installed?

  2. It has SP 1 so far

  3. if you haven’t done the following yet, then try to: go to explorer –> computer property and check out the performance index for your machine. It should give you performance index for memory, cpu etc. Click on it, and it should give you information about the basics to improve performance by shutting down programs not needed etc. ( I think it’s called windows guard). There are lots of extra features that could be turned off to save resource. Also, you could change the look and feel back to classic across the system, which will give you the familiar XP look if you feel more used to it. If you are running heavy loads, make sure you check the virtual memory setup.
