Making Gasoline From Worn-Out Tires
It is estimated that the world currently contains between 25 to 39 million tons of worn-out automobile tires, and the stockpile is growing at a yearly rate of 7 million tons. Tires must be stored and secured, as they are highly toxic when burned. It takes a tire100 years to degrade naturally. During that time the toxic chemicals seep into the earth’s increasingly fragile eco-system.
Fortunately, Coral Group Ecological Systems, has come up with an eco-friendly way to recycle tires. The process turns the tires into three forms of material: liquid, gas, and solid. Up to 85% of the liquid portion can be used in motor fuel production, which is more than twice as much as natural oil. As an added bonus, the process is partially self-sustaining, as the gas portion is pumped back into the generator providing 30% of the power the processing requires.
