My First Buffalo Burger!
For the past few months my buddy and I have been hitting up the local Fuddruckers every other Friday for lunch. Prior to our last visit we’d standardized on the 1/3lb Orignal Burger meal (drink & fries). But this time my buddy perused the menu a little deeper and noticed they serve buffalo burgers. Excitedly he said, “I’m gettin’ a buffalo burger!” Never having tried one, I was curious and easily swayed by his enthusiasm to follow suit. I was a little concerned as the smallest size buffalo burger they offer is the 1/2lb-er, but I convinced myself to give it a try, thinking, “I can always save half for later.”
The hamburgers are always so darn good as you get to fix them up exactly the way you like at the Toppings Bar. But perhaps even more-so than any hamburger I suffer the consequences of a bloated stomach and an overwhelming urge to take a four hour nap. When my name was called I picked up my buffalo burger and dressed it with my usual: ketchup, mustard, pickles, banana peppers, tomatoes, and shredded lettuce. To prepare myself for the dreaded post consumption downer, I supplemented my buffalo burger with a glass of Dr. Pepper.
As I ate my burger, the toppings melded into a nice creamy goo with the pickles and peppers providing a perfectly contrasting crispy crunch hidden amongst the juicy buffalo meat and deliciously soft bun. It didn’t take many bites before I had to exclaim, “This is so freakin good!” It had to be the best burger I ever ate …and ate …and ate. Even though it was so huge, I ended up eating the whole thing. The meat was so tasty and yet there was no fat!? It was like eating extra lean ground beef, except that it tasted really really good!?
Once I was done, I prepared myself mentally for the debilitation that was sure to come. After 15 minutes, I still felt good and energized. I waited. A half hour - nothing. An hour - nothing. Two hours - still nothing. What the heck?! When is it gonna kick in? Well surprisingly, it never did. I felt great the rest of the day. The next day, my stomach actually felt good. It was like nothing I’ve ever felt before. Usually my stomach either feels bad, hungry, stuffed, over-stuffed, or nothing at all (status quo). This time it felt better than status quo. It was like it was buzzing with excitement. It was invigorated! Needless to say, I’m anxiously awaiting my next visit to Fuddruckers! I’ve even been practicing my order, “A half-pound Buffalo Burger please!
